Hello, Angel Wellness Club 🪽
Lately, I’ve been noticing the same thing in Angel Cakes in different cities: our guests are thinking about protein much more consciously.
I actually love seeing this shift. For a long time, conversations around healthy eating were mostly about what to remove: less sugar, fewer carbs, fewer calories. Now I hear a different question much more often: What can I add to my plate to make it more nourishing?
Protein has become one of the biggest wellness trends. There’s protein coffee, protein cereal, protein desserts, protein water and now proteinmaxxing, where suddenly almost everything needs an extra 20 grams of protein.
I don’t think we need to make protein another thing to obsess over. Our goal is to to understand where it belongs on your plate and how much you actually need.
So this week, we’re looking at protein beyond the hype. Let’s explore it together 🤍
With love,
Alina 🪽

What’s hot: Proteinmaxxing
When a nutritional basic becomes a wellness flex
Walk through almost any supermarket now and protein is no longer confined to yogurt, eggs or the sports-nutrition aisle. It is showing up on cereal, chips, desserts, drinks and snacks, while social media has turned simply eating protein into proteinmaxxing: deliberately pushing protein intake higher in pursuit of muscle, satiety or body-composition goals. Resistance training, healthy-aging concerns and the rise of GLP-1 medications are all helping drive the category.
“High protein” can also become another health halo. A cookie doesn't become nutritionally complete because protein was added to it. And continually increasing one macronutrient doesn't automatically make a diet healthier, especially if vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes and dietary variety quietly disappear from the plate.
Ask yourself:
Do my meals contain enough high-quality protein for my body, lifestyle and goals, while still leaving room for everything else that makes a diet nourishing?
That is the version of the protein trend we support 🪽

And since this week is all about protein, here are a few menu picks to try.

Zucchini pancakes
18 g protein
Vegan zucchini pancakes served with tofu aioli or Greek yogurt, a bean mix, spinach and fresh herbs.
A good choice when you want something savoury, light but still satisfying.
Angel syrniki
20 g protein
Served with vanilla Greek yogurt or coconut cream.
One of our favourite examples of how a protein-rich breakfast can still feel like a treat.
Chicken bone broth
7 g protein
Clear, flavourful chicken broth slowly simmered with fresh vegetables, white miso, apple vinegar and a touch of Himalayan salt, finished with aromatic parsley.
Simple, warming and especially good when you want something nourishing without a heavy meal.
Berry protein flower
7 g protein
A raspberry and strawberry-flavoured protein bar shaped like a flower.
An easy sweet option for the days when you want something small with your coffee.
And if you’re in Dubai...
You can also make protein the centre of a full meal with miso salmon bowl (32 g protein) or chicken bowl (41 g protein).

Notice how many different forms protein can take,
from a warm bowl of broth to something sweet 🪽
